Tourism Diversity Matters is proud to commemorate and celebrate Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after President Lincoln declared all enslaved persons free, troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and free enslaved African Americans in Texas. Slave owners had immorally and illegally deprived these African Americans of their freedom. June 19 marks the celebration of their long-overdue emancipation.
As we reflect on the power and resilience of African Americans, our support and unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion continues.
